CLEVELAND - The American Cancer Society is hosting Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3) kickoff events this week to recruit Cleveland area residents interested in participating in a historic nationwide study that will help researchers better understand the genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that cause or prevent cancer.
Experts says many people diagnosed with cancer struggle to answer the question, "What caused my cancer?" In many cases, medical professionals don?t know the answer.
The CPS-3 will help them better understand what factors cause cancer to be better equipped to prevent it.
There is one eligibility considerations for those who wish to enroll. Men and women must be between the ages of 30 and 65 and never have been diagnosed with cancer.
The study will enroll a diverse population of 300,000 people across the United States.
To enroll, you need to:
- provide a waist measurement
- give a small blood sample
- complete a comprehensive survey online or at the enrollment site
Over the course of the study, participants will be asked to fill out follow-up surveys every few years.??
At the kickoff events, participants will receive all the information they need to educate community members about the study and how they can make an appointment to enroll between April 18-20.
